Stephen is originally from Warrington but is now based in Edinburgh. He plays a variety of sounds and feels from over-the-top, cheesy romance stories such as ‘A Thousand Skies’, to the more serious and sombre numbers like ‘Cheater’s Heart’ and ‘White and Black’. His influences include Tom Petty, The Beatles and Oasis.
He first played live in 2014 with a rendition of his own song, ‘Believe In’, at the Corran Hall in Oban.
Following this, Stephen embarked on a new adventure with his first band, The Stephen Skinn Experience. With this band, he played many live shows locally of both his own material and songs he had co-written with his bandmates.
As time went on, The Stephen Skinn Experience came to an end. But Stephen soon formed a new band called Perfectly Flawed. This band would go on to play many live shows including Hogmanay in Oban 2015 and eventually recorded an E.P with songs that Stephen had written himself. However, the E.P never materialised as the band began falling apart with its’ members taking on new commitments elsewhere.
Stephen went on a small hiatus after the split of Perfectly Flawed. During this time, he headed into the studio to start the initial recording of what would be his debut album, Living Off Dreams. The album took around two years to record and would be an experience that Stephen will never forget.
The album was finally released in September 2017 to critical acclaim with Tunedloud describing it as ‘a bold, declarative statement that finds the artist brimming with deserved confidence and assurance’.
